How do you let go of characters you came to care about?

How do you let go of characters you came to care about?

The last couple of months I’ve been have seen a lot of TV-series on Netflix. And not just a lot, but A LOT. At this current moment I’m almost done with season two of Battlestar Galactica, Actually a great series, and I wonder why I did not see it sooner? Maybe it wasn’t that easy, when you did not have the complete series on Netflix and the like. Well I’m hooked on the show, and watching every moment I have the chance.

A show I just finished is FarScape. Is has 4 seasons and aired from 1998 and forward. It’s Australian made and it has completely skipped my life the first 30 sense it was made. “FarScape now on Netflix” it said. “What is this?” I said. Looks promising, lets have a look. FarScape, a Sci-Fi Series about an astronaut named John Crichton, who by accident flies through a wormhole and ends up in a distant part of the universe.

To start with I thought “whaaaaaaat the hell is this” Crappy effects, characters with rubber masks, and so on and so forth. Ohh well, got nothing better to go, so why not give it a chance. One show after another goes by, on iPad and TV, when possible. I developed a liking for the characters, and started to really cheer the main characters on. Getting involved in the feelings and the love stories taking place. Before I knew it, this show was so much more than “just” another Sci-Fi series.

FarScape is 4 seasons long, 88 shows in total. And I gulped up everyone of the shows. just to be left alone on a cliffhanger of an ending…… Noooooooooooooo, what the hell? what is happening? What now? Are there no more FarScape? Is that it? Is it gone now? So many questions.

Well i had to go to Wikipida to look up the show. To see if i could get some closure. Apparently there was supposed to be 5 seasons, but the show got cut after only 4. But then I read some more and found out, there was made around 2 years after the show stopped. A movie called the “FarScape: The PeaceKeeper Wars”  So as quick as I could, i got a hold of the movie, sense it was not on Netflix. Great to see the characters again, to get some closure and see the end.

But what now? I want to see more? I want to see how the characters develop. How do you let go of the characters that you came to care about? I know its a sci-fi show, but it’s like reading a book. Or anything that stimulate the brain. If you involve yourself in the story. Get involved with the characters, care about the people. It does not matter if it’s a Game, TV show or a book. You start to care….. How do you let go?

When was that taken?

When was that taken?

Some days ago, my colleague came up to me, talking about this magazine he just acquired.
He just attended the Copenhagen Photo Marathon (cpm)
Cpm is a competition where you competed in taking the best and most original pictures, with in a certain timeframe. Like if you compete in the analogue category, you get 12 or 24 subcategories (within a main category like “tolerance”) the sub category could then be something like the word “fur” you would then have to shoot a picture of that word, but within the red line or restraint of the main category. And you only got one “shot” to make it happen. The pictures have to be in the right order as the categories on the film role.

But back to my colleague. He just got this magazine from the cpm 25 years anniversary, and he came up to me asking if this Duse sitting with a beer in the middle of central square Copenhagen was me?
What?. What’s do you mean? Why should I be in a magazine for cpm? But then he showed me the picture. And yes! Truly enough, there I was! Sitting there grinning with a big beer in my hand, and my Friend The Koch
This picture must have been taken around ten years ago. I think I attended the cpm in 2003 or 2002 the last time. And I had no idea that the picture existed. Lasse look like the time he just returned from a trip in Australia. A little bit surfer chuppy with surfer necklaces on the neck. He

But really funny that we should end up on the center page of a anniversary magazine…

Remington v. 2.0

Remington v. 2.0

Just got myself a new hair clipper….. Yay me. I did had my doubts about buying it, for the one that I found was a Remington. I did a review of the Old Remington clipper I got back in 2010. The old review an be viewed here that clipper was awful, so this time I decided to go for a more traditional clipper.
I just finished cutting my hair, and it worked okay I guess. Did the job, and is now a bit short haired again on top. Still think it had a hard time getting some of the hair aground the edge of the hair, and around the ears, even with the 6mm on only. Well for the price I guess I works fine for the use I have for it, and I got a free nostril hair clipper as well….. Wooooooo

Viva la résistance, I mean Le Mage

Viva la résistance, I mean Le Mage

Just wanted to share some pictures of Zirkus, the group I talked about in an earlier post.
The pictures are shot by Dennis Westerberg, who also plays the Banjo in Zirkus. Dennis is currently undergoing the education of a photographer.
The series he made here is for a school assignment. Pretty damn well made for a school project!! Dennis is also talented in the art of post processing in photoshop. Something thats needed to put the last bit of punch in a otherwise already cool photo series.
Enjoy the pictures. This link takes you directly to Zirkus’s Facebook fan page. Support the band and like their page.

Run away and join the Zirkus

Run away and join the Zirkus

I don’t think that I have mentioned my brothers band yet. Well, I’ve been talking about a few bands but not this one. The band I’m talking about is called Zirkus.
Zirkus is a live performing band, where music, story, stage performance, and physical appearance comes together as a whole.
They have had some some live shows during the summer and at one of them was at the Copenhagen Burlesque party, where we also shot a few shots of the band. PanCakeBeaver.com was shooting pictures of the entire party. You can see the gallery at the link below. Also more pictures of Zirkus. The picture uploaded to this post is from the party as well. A fun fun evening.

One two tatt and done

One two tatt and done

The last half a year, I’ve been working on my new tattoo. And now it’s finally done! Inked up and everything.
I always wanted a “geek sleeve” a tattoo with all the things that I love and appreciate. Of course I don’t have that big set of arms to get everything I want, so I have to settle for less.
The idea was to get something from books, games, board games, movies, theater, comic books, cartoons and music.
Sadly I did not get all the categories on the skin, but almost. I missed music and board games, so they must be added at another time.

I started out with collecting a shit load of pictures to use for inspiration. After collection the majority of pictures the hunt started for a tattoo artist. I put the pictures on a iPad and walked around in Copenhagen, talking to people in different tattoo studios. Some had some very cool artwork, but none really knew who the people and things on the pictures where!
The last place I searched is also where I found my artist. I walked into this place called Stigma Tattoo at Sankt Hans Torv, and here I met Thomas Lock. Thomas knew pretty much all of the stuff on the pictures and he also had a cartoony feel to his artwork. So these two things made me decide that Thomas the way to go.
On a side note, I can mention that Thomas now lives in Stockholm and employed by Porky Royal Tattoo, but visits Denmark once a month for clients.

The tattoo took 3 turns to finish. First where we did the outlines of the entire thing – About 3 hours. 2nd time we colored the lower half and some if the shadowing in the top – 4 hours. 3rd and the last time we colored the rest of the sleeve. – 3 hours. The only thing really needed now is just one hour where we fix small spots that might need some ink. At this point a date is not yet appointed.

Attached to this post is the pictures taking during progress, do you know all the stuff in the sleeve :-) ?

I love my Geek Sleeve

Back to school

Back to school

I’ve started school last week, and it’s been a looooog time since I’ve been going a place like that. Not since 1999 when I was taking the “HG” education on Trade school. Well I’ve been going to school up till about 2004, but they where more creative classes. Like media, web design and of cause my theater education from Holberg.
The education I’m taking now is called Merkonom/Akademi in International Business and Marketing. Some is pretty interesting stuff. It will take a total of 2-3 years part time. So at the moment I’m going to school from 17-20.30 every monday.

It’s quite a bit of fresh air to be doing something completely different.

Building a new beaver home

Building a new beaver home

So I’ve started this project together with a big bunch of other people. I’ve been searching a long time for a new studio for PanCakeBeaver. And now a friend of mine is starting this project where we get a huge building, get as many artists and creative souls in as possible. And share the expenses.

All in all, right now we are around 22 people And together we started building what’s needed in the new place. We are of cause gonna build a photo studio, then the main man of the project is a carpenter, so he’s gonna get a wood shop. The we build a rehearsal space for a band, maybe two bands, and the rest of the space will be used for painters, and other alike creative souls.

So far weave build most of the walls that we use to divide the new place into sections. And the rehearsal space is now done. The only thing keeping me from getting out there and start using the place, is that it’s really not clean out there. A lot of shot hat needs to be thrown out, and a lot of dust everywhere. So the place really needs a good cleaning a run to the dump, then we are good to go. Uploaded here are some working pictures of us building walls.

Super Bowl XLVII Fun night

Super Bowl XLVII Fun night

Everybody knows what time it is? Super Bowl time!!! Wooohoooo
Just as last year, I at my brothers work, where we once again have set up for the big NFL final. Ravens vs 49′ers.

I believe I have mentioned on an earlier post, that I have a small bet with my brother, where we bet a bottle of booze with accessories on who wins. The looser picks his choice first for next years fight. Sadly I lost last year (and I STILL owe little brother numsi a bottle…) but this means that I can for this match, choose Ravens! Goooooo ravens.
Here are some pictures of a cosy evening to come, Ben Rothligburgers, beer, sodas chips and most importantly… A big ass screen…l I mean friends….

X-rite i1 Display Pro

X-rite i1 Display Pro

I recently bought a new monitor for my computer. I have a setup with two 24″ screens on a extended desktop. Setting up the new screen and replacing an old 17″ Dell monitor. I very quickly found out, just how bad my screens where in the color calibration. Left monitor had a huge tint of blue, and the older screen next to it, I could now see, just how big a green tint that one had.

Working with pictures and being super colorblind, I really am not making it easy for myself. So I decided it might be time to get myself a monitor calibrator. I went out and I got the X-rite i1 Display Pro for around 1700 DKK

As backgrounds on my screens at the moment I’m using a picture in Black/White of The Charlotte that I have taken. Blue tint on one, Green tint on the other. I installed the software and plugged in the calibrator. Hung it on my screen and started the process. Takes about tw0 minutes pr. screen. And Wolla! Now have to identical (well almost, small variations but still) backgrounds in Black and white and not in any wrong color tint.

This calibrator has easy to use software, and I can recommend it for use with non professional screens like standard color monitors on your home computer. The software guides you to the setup and procedure all the way through, so there is no worries. X-rite i1 Display pro also can be used to calibrate projectors and screen based on the ambient light in the room. So far don’t really have that much bad to say about the little thing.

Why ohh why did i not get a monitor calibration before?

The Black/white picture of The Charlotte should contain no color what so ever.

The hunt for studio space

The hunt for studio space

It’s been a dream for me and the future of my company PanCakeBeaver.com to get a real studio. I have a lot of the equipment to stuff in there, but simply just need the space. At the moment I need to remove half my apartment if I want to set up for a studio session. So I’m determent to get a place where I can just go, and most of my stuff will just be there.

Back where I was living in Oslo, I was just a signature away, for getting my own studio in the smack middle of the city. But when my job did not renew my temp contract, I simply was not able to afford the place… So the dream kind a washed down the drain at that point.

To start with, I’m searching for a studio space, where maybe 3-5 other people also have access and use it for office as well, so we therefor can share all the expenses. To start with it might be a bit to expensive to upkeep a place of my own with the income I get. But i’m pretty sure and certain that I will be earning a lot more when I have a place to do stuff.

Some of my contacts told me about some of these shared office spaces, where you do your business from, that actually also have a studio space attached. This would maybe be real good. And being able to run my business with a lot of other creative people around me, maybe not be that bad an idea. I know the The Charlotte would love a place where she can just go, when she needs pictures of her costumes and creations.

Current space

The space as it might look at some times now

Dream space

How awesome would it be to have a place like this?

Those got damn ovens

Those got damn ovens

Some months ago, my stove went out of business. So I had to go get a new one. My kitchen is not all that big, so I had to make really sure that the with of oven that I would get, was 100% accurate. The time came for my oven to be delivered and ohh what happy day. I could now cook again.
To my big misbelieve I had to come to terms with, that my new oven was to damn wide! What had happened? The ruler that I used to measure the old stove with, was faulty! Apparently it started the cm. count some cm’s in, and not right at the start as it should have…. DOH!! So instead of returning it, I chopped of pieces of my kitchen to make the damn thing fit….. Breaking the oven door…. (Another story)

Well at my work place this week I was put in charge of getting a new stove for the kitchen. Learning from my mistakes, I found a good measuring tape that should be accurate so I was sure what I was doing. The new oven arrived, and we unpacked it…… TEN CM to FREAKING WIDE. How the hell did that happened? I still have no clue why I ordered a 60cm wide stove, when the measurement cleared stated 50cm….. Ggrrrrrrrrrrr

Well we packed it up nicely and had it picked up by the company who sold it, and at the same time the brought a new one, which fitted perfectly. A little 500 Kr pickup fee mistake…… Might need to buy cake for the people at work for this error!

Fucking hate ovens……

The Nose job

The Nose job

Once upon a time, back some where in the 1990′s. I by a freak accident smashed my head into a wooden pole… DIIING…. I broke my nose, and not just broke it, but the bone in the middle flip. Of cause i got it fixed in the hospital. And all was well. Now, about a year ago i started to notice that i had trouble breathing through one of my nostrils. I thought it might have been a cold, and it was just blocked. But as time went by, i started to get worried for my nose did not clear up yet. I can breath but only fully through one of my nostrils. This also results in a little whistle concert while i sleep.

I finally around two months ago, got an appointment with the nose doctor. I could see that my nose might have gone a bit askew again. Here therefor booked me in for a time at the hospital. I went there this Wednesday, and stayed there being looked up the nose from different doctors and surgeons. They all agreed that the nose was skewed to the side… Well thank your for confirming what i already know…. Apparently they could not take a decision on what to do with the nose. Apparently they are not allowed to do anything with the nose, only a Chief Surgeon would be able to do that. An “ordinary” Doctor was not allowed when my nose has been fixed before… back in the 1990′s……

So it all resulted in another booking with the chief surgeon, who will decide what to do, when he got them time in the schedule. So now I’m back in 1½ month waiting period before I cane told, what they can do to fix it.

Is this really that necessary to get fixes? YES it is. I have trouble falling a sleep and i only breath through the nose. I can her my voice being more “nasal” than normal. And in my professional life, i depend on my breathing and voice, when standing on stage. So i can’t wait for them to tell me some good news about fixing it. Hopefully they don’t chop off my pretty pretty (big) nose..

Happy nose man?
